Holy. Crap.

Just looked at the countdown on the side of the blog, and it’s under 40 days.

Gah.

On the upside, we’ve now got the bare essentials: infant car seat, clothes, diapers, crib, bottles. Eliza would be ok. But it will certainly be a bunch more comfy for her with a few more creature comforts.

Eliza goes to Washington

Well, in a reversal of the normal around our house, Betsy is out of town for the weekend. She went to DC to visit friends, and is having a great time.

Doesn’t keep me from worrying about her and Eliza, though. I like to think of it as Eliza’s first trip to the big city….

Pregnant fun

Friday I had to do a three-hour glucose test, which involved four needles and fasting overnight. It was relatively painless, though. I’m anxious to get the results tomorrow.

My other health issue is pelvic pain, which is apparently caused by the hormone relaxin. Some women get it, some don’t. I happen to be one of the lucky ones, I guess. It is all worth it, though. And I can’t complain: my first two trimesters were relatively easy.

Loot! Part II

Oh, how we love gift cards and cash. We got lots of other great things at our baby shower in Olive Hill, KY, but those were certainly greatly appreciated. It’s daunting to think of all the stuff we still need to buy.

Most unusual gift? Money that was rolled up and turned into sculpture: bills that were turned into a baby carriage! We did get a few things from our registries, also, which was a relief. I was beginning to think we spent all that time doing those for nothing!

Eliza in 3D

Yesterday was a day we’ll never forget. We got 3D ultrasounds of little Eliza (see Flickr stream to the right). She is soooo cute, but then again we’re biased. The technology was absolutely stunning, and although we were in there for an hour and had to pay for these, it was absolutely worth every penny. It’s hard to describe seeing her face for the first time…

People are saying she looks more like me than Jason. The chubby cheeks and thighs are definitely mine!  Seeing these just made me all the more excited to see her in person in just 8 short weeks (or less)!

This weekend = more shower

So we head north this Friday to take part in the second of our three showers. This one is in concert with my sister, and is being thrown by my family.

Here’s a shot of our haul from last weekend:

and here’s my favorite gift:

A travel bottle warmer. I know I spend a lot of time in my car, but I’m hoping we never actually have to use this. đŸ™‚

Loot! Part I

Back from the first baby shower (with my folks, in Nancy, KY). Got tons of great stuff. All the usual: lots of clothes, some diapers, wipes, toys, wash cloths, bottles, baby bath stuff. Jason will probably report on the more unusual stuff, so I’ll leave that to him. It was actually quite fun, although weird to be in the spotlight opening presents. Felt a little strange, but I’d better get used to it (two more showers to go!).

Me and my Big Mouth

So, yesterday asked my doctor if it was truly okay that I only passed my glucose test by 1 point. Then, I casually mentioned that diabetes runs in my family (brother, several aunts, cousins). That made her decide that we should do the three hour test “just in case.” So, in two weeks, I have to do a three-hour glucose test, which involves fasting overnight and four needles (which I hate). At first I was horribly depressed about this decision. But the more I think about it, the more I think “better safe than sorry.” It really is a problem in my family, and I’ve gained quite a bit of weight in this pregnancy, so I just want to be sure. Anything I have to do to keep little Eliza safe is okay by me. I can take it.

Baby gear and gadgets

I am completely overwhelmed by the amount of stuff that seems to be needed for Eliza. And that doesn’t include the stuff that I would just like to have…for instance, a videocamera isn’t a necessity for her.

But it might be for me.

I can’t imagine not capturing as much of her life as possible…especially as an infant. Every day is unique, and they change so fast…I can’t imagine yet how quickly, but I know that I want to document the journey with her so that she can have these memories to look over later in her life. Thats one reason that I started this blog. Partially for Bets and I, but also for her. In 5 years, she can come back to these posts and read about our love for her, before she is even here. I think that’s pretty marvelous, and a sort of magical time-travel that she won’t get any other way.
