Eliza has a new friend: Amelia Anne Gunnels, born 2/7/08 (less than 8 weeks after Eliza!). Welcome to the world, Amelia! Eliza (and I) can’t wait to meet you. And huge congrats to mommy, daddy, and big brother. A trip to Atlanta is in order this Spring, for sure!

First walk
Because it was unseasonably warm, Eliza took her first walk yesterday afternoon! She seemed to enjoy it, but she was a little shocked by the sunlight (our house tends to be dark, due to an unfortunate lack of windows). Jason, Eliza, Indy, and I all walked down Lake ODonnell Road for a few minutes, and it was amazing how such a simple act made me so happy.
Stuffy baby nose
Lately, Eliza has a seriously stuffy nose when she wakes up in the mornings. The doctor has suggested saline drops in her nose and a humidifier in her room. So Jason is making a pit stop on the way home tonight. It’s the saddest thing in the world to hear her struggling to breathe while she drinks from her bottle. But hopefully she’ll be better in the morning. She doesn’t have a fever or anything, so it’s just normal baby stuff. But it’s still tough to listen to and not be able to help!
Pobrecita
Poor little Eliza. Had a rough day yesterday, with an upset stomach (we think). Lots and lots of spit-up, crying, and gas. It’s weird that some days she digests everything wonderfully and other days are horrible. We’re hoping today is better. She was so exhausted after such a trying day that she slept from 10:00 p.m. to 4:15 a.m. and would have gone longer, but I woke her up to eat. 6 1/2 hours is a very long time between feedings at this point. There will come a day when I will love for her to sleep through the night. But not quite yet. I’m thankful for Jason, who can always get her to sleep no matter how fussy she is. Some kind of magic daddy dust or something.
“Oh Noes! Get him, Harry!”

Another great smile
Cutie Pie
She’s really starting to like getting a bath. She smiled through the whole process this time around.
FYI: The yellow thing I’m holding is a spray shower head covered with a washcloth to diffuse the flow and keep it from spraying all over the place. Hey, it works!
Growth spurt #2
Eliza has had three fussy days/nights in a row, which is highly unusual for her. She’s usually a very peaceful, calm baby who is rather routine-oriented already. But for the last few days, she has been grumpy, refusing to nap, and crying as soon as we put her in her crib at night. After doing some reading, it seems like this might be a classic growth spurt. Apparently, they often happen around 3 weeks and again at 6 weeks. I remember the last one, and she was similarly fussy. It has been a rough few nights, but she should pass through it soon and hopefully return to her “old” self. On the positive side, she is smiling and cooing a lot more now. This is supposedly a big couple of weeks in terms of development; I can’t wait to see what each day brings. I just wish the nights would go back to normal!
