She has had a runny nose and watery eyes for almost three weeks now. And yesterday she was extremely cranky at daycare, so I finally took her to the doctor. It doesn’t seem that anything is infected, so we got the green light to try Zyrtec. Although her doctor thinks she is technically too young to have allergies, it seems that once again she is ahead of the curve. So we’re going to try it and see what happens.
It was an eventful weekend for little E: National Cornbread Festival in South Pittsburg and Sewanaroo music festival on Saturday; Chattanooga zoo complete with carousel ride and a visit to the farmer’s market on Sunday (see picture of her playing in the kids’ area). We all had a great time, but we were exhausted by Sunday night.

Poor Eliza. We hope she feels better soon and that the Zyrtec works.
My son is 10 months and definitely has allergies. He’s had a runny nose and junky cough since his first cold after starting daycare in December. But we’ve since discovered (by a scratch test at the allergist – long story – he had a reaction to eggs which is why we were there) that he’s allergic to our cats, too. And we now observe that when he’s out of the house for a bit of time, his nose runs a whole lot less.
Not suggesting it’s pet dander for you, just that I don’t think she’s too young, by any means. (We’re going to send my cats to live with my parents – very sad, sigh.)
We have some Zyrtec but haven’t used it yet. One of the allergy lists I just joined has had a discussion about possible behavioral side effects from Zyrtec. (Tantrums, turning devil-children, etc..) I asked our pediatrician about it and she said that some kids definitely do have bad behavioral side effects from it, but the only way to know is to try it. Just something to watch out for..
