Still here!

Yep, I’m still kicking around. Major training going on at the new job…still going well, and I’m starting to feel more and more like a part of the library.

Update on Origins (much fun, and I’m on my own card now!) and more job updates to come.

I’ll be at the Origins game Fair for the next couple of days…possible posts from there, but it may be a day or so before I get back on.

See ya all soon!

$10K reward for Magic Cards

We’re reasonably close to Roanoke here in the Triangle, so those of you that read this and are gamers…keep your eyes out!

Star City Games offers $10,000 reward for thief
On Saturday morning, December 20th, sometime between 1 – 6 a.m., someone (or several people) broke into the back of StarCityGames.com’s Roanoke, VA warehouse, not an easy thing to do. Once they finally got in, they quickly, but methodically, stole significant quantities (exact numbers are still being compiled) of older, collectable, Type One singles. This included numerous Black Loti, Moxes, Ancestral Recalls, Time Walks, Timetwisters, Juzam Djinns, Library of Alexandrias, etc.
Our insurance will pay to replace the cards, and our already heavy security measures are being increased by tenfold. At this point, most people would probably chalk this up to “experience” and simply leave it at that. However, I am not “most people”, as whoever did this is about to find out.

Today, I am publicly offering a $10,000 “no questions asked” bounty on the individual(s) who broke into our warehouse.

Poorly Drawn Theatre

For those of you who don’t know about my other life as a brilliant and ambitious playtester for a certain gaming company, you probably DO know about my penchant for gaming in general. Through the course of my tenure with Raw Deal, I’ve met a BUNCH of very cool, funny people. None of them is funnier than Ian, the creator of Poorly Drawn Theatre, the site which I will now selflessly pitch like mad to all 5 of you that read this blog. It’s a very specific type of humor, but it’s funny as hell if you like it. If you like it, tell him so..he’d love to get a lot of random email from strangers about Poorly Drawn. ๐Ÿ™‚

For more examples of really odd humor, check out Thuggin’ and Buggin’ No. 1 and Thuggin’ and Buggin’ No. 2, a dual property of Ian and myself. Warning: full of meaningless wrestling and game-specific jargon. Read it for the insults, though, and it’ll be ok.

Penny arcade vs Strawberry Shortcake

Here we have a bizarre case. One of my favorite online comics, Penny Arcade, was served a cease and desist from American Greetings, the owners of the characters in the Strawberry Shortcake family of products most of us probably remember from our youth. The problem in question is this comic (also here as PNG), which parodies a game creator called America McGee, whose specialty is taking children’s stories (Alice in Wonderland, Oz) and taking them gothic. Clearly, American Greetings didn’t think it was funny.

Discussion on Slashdot.

Sad state of intellectual property in the US continues. PA can’t afford to fight this, so they just have to roll over.

Or, they make a strip like this.
