Music, UNC, and the First Year Student

You're here because, like millions of other people you love music. The Internet age has provided the ability to get just about any type of music or any particular song in a matter of minutes. Although the heydays of carefree and unbridled downloading are all but over, you can still get the music you want if you know how to go about getting it!

The aim of this site is to inform you as the student of your options and the issues surrounding music online. Don't let the entertainment industry intimidate, harass, and threaten you. Get informed, get savvy, and get the music!

We don't blame you if you don't understand intellectual property rights. They are an increasingly confusing and difficult thing to understand. The Libraries here at UNC have created a tutorial that helps explain the law of the United States, as well as how these laws apply to you here on campus.
